Koskisen builds sawmill in Vologda region
25/01/2008 - 16:31

A new sawmill of OOO Koskisilva was commissioned on November 29, 2007 in the settlement of Sheksna (Vologda region), the economic department of the regional government announced. An approx. 60 ha land plot had been allocated for that purpose. The investment in the first stage of the project approached €15 million, mostly for engineering facilities, infrastructure, 2 km of railway and a power supply station. According to the investors’ plans, the same land plot will later house a plywood plant and a birch veneer plant.
The OOO Koskisilva sawmill is equipped with Swedish gang saws and will mainly produce birch boards. The rated capacity of the enterprise with a two-shaft working scheme will be 20,000 m3 per year. The staff will exceed 100 people eventually.

OOO Koskisilva is part of the Finnish Koskisen group, one of the leading Finnish timber processing enterprises. Its turnover reached €208 million in 2006. Exports account for about 62% of the turnover.
Koskisen has been operating in Russia for more than 20 years, mainly in timber harvesting. In late November 2005, the group established a Russian company to inquire into investment projects in Russia. The decision to begin the construction of the sawmill was taken in July 2006.
