Harald Mauser from the European Forestry Institute presented at the European Hardwood Conference in Vienna an overview of the impact of EU policy.

Forestry remains a key driver for the Commission to reach its CO2 neutrality goals. This can also be seen in the inflation of legislation covering our industry. Since 2019 35 new legally binding policy documents have been aproved and are now in force, 16 are in the works and 2 have been announced.

The stated goals to create a bio-based economy and to develop bio-based materials are clearly positive for our industry. Other goals to protect forests and bio habitats will have a negative impact on harvesting.
