India shows a low demand for lumber in November 2023. Also the market for logs - especially hardwood - is not showing much evolution. Most demand comes via the packaging industry that is also more or less in a stagnant state.
MDF, on the other hand, as well as plywood and veneers experience a good demand these days. Due to the lack of domestic supply core veneers are imported from Brasil and Uruguay (Eucalyptus) but mainly from Vietnam (Acacia and Eucalyptus). Fortunately for India the Vietnamese industry is focussing more and more on the lower margin but in this times welcomingly stable export market while other customer countries take a step back.
Overall the industry is in a good condition but has to up effiency and lower costs in order to stay competitive in the changing markets.
