Vietnam wood and wood product exports up 11% yoy  
   

According to Vietnam Customs data, in September 2024, wood and wood product (W&WP) exports earned USD 1.25 billion, representing a 17% decrease from August 2024 but an 11% increase over September 2023. The share of wood product (WP) exports was USD 902.5 million, down 12.5% compared to August 2024 but up 20% compared to September 2023. For the first nine months of 2024, W&WP exports reached USD 11.7 billion, marking a 22% increase over the same period in 2023, with WP exports accounting for USD 8.04 billion, a 24% year-on-year increase.

In terms of exports to specific regions, W&WP exports to the EU in the first nine months of 2024 earned about USD 378 million, up 25% over the same period in 2023. Vietnam’s office furniture exports in September 2024 reached USD 27.3 million, up 18% compared to September 2023, while the total for the first nine months reached USD 216.9 million, reflecting an 11% year-on-year increase.

On the import side, Vietnam’s W&WP imports in September 2024 totaled USD 234.5 million, down 13% from August 2024 but up 24% compared to September 2023. For the first nine months, Vietnam’s W&WP imports stood at USD 2.03 billion, a 26% increase over the same period in 2023. In September, Vietnam imported 36,900 cu.m of tali, worth USD 13.0 million, down 2% in both volume and value compared to August 2024 but showing an 18% increase in volume and a 2.5% decrease in value year-over-year. For the first nine months, tali imports were estimated at 240,400 cu.m, valued at USD 89.7 million, marking a 19% decrease in volume and a 28% decrease in value compared to the same period in 2023.

Vietnam's imports of logs and lumber from the U.S. surged in September 2024, totaling 65,000 cu.m with a value of USD 28.0 million, an 11% increase in volume and a 6% increase in value over August 2024. Year-over-year, this represents a sharp increase of 54% in volume and 61% in value. In the first nine months of 2024, Vietnam’s imports of logs and sawnwood from the U.S. reached 518,380 cu.m, valued at USD 222.96 million, reflecting a 32% increase in volume and a 33% increase in value compared to the same period in 2023.
