The German wood price index for packaging increased in double digits in April

The price index for sawn timber and wood-based materials for wooden packaging materials and pallets in Germany, which is now published monthly due to the strong market dynamics, increased again in double digits in April. 

The index for solid wood for wooden pallets rose by a further 13.8% compared to the first quarter. With a score of 250.2 points, the value determined by the Bundesverband Holzpackmittel - Paletten - Exportverpackung (HPE) in cooperation with the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn was 60.5% above the previous year's value.

The index for solid wood for wooden packaging increased by 14.2% to a level of 188.5 points. Compared to April 2020, this resulted in an increase of 42.5%.

Plywood for packaging rose particularly rapidly compared to the first quarter. The index rose by 16.9% to 176.1 points and was thus 53.9% above the previous year's value.

With an increase of 14.5% to 108.7 points compared to the first quarter, OSB for packaging also made significant gains. Compared to the index level in April 2020, there is an increase of 14.5%.
